Ampomah only played in the reserve team in the men's area and was finally signed by league competitor Waasland-Beveren in summer 2016 . He made his debut in the Belgian premier league on matchday one of the 2016/17 season in a 0-1 away defeat against Sporting Charleroi . With the East Flemish he could never take part in the championship round in three years, but held the class with the club. In 88 competitive games for Beveren, Ampomah scored 19 times.

In July 2019, the striker signed a three-year contract with the German Bundesliga club Fortuna Düsseldorf for a club-internal record transfer fee, which is said to be 4 million euros . After Anthony Baffoe , Arthur Moses , Daniel Addo and Bernard Tekpetey , he became the fifth Ghanaian in the ranks of the Fortunes.
