Dawid Kownacki (born March 14, 1997 in Gorzów Wielkopolski ) is a Polish football player . The striker is under contract with Fortuna Düsseldorf and is a Polish international .

Career

society

Beginnings in Poland and Italy

In his youth, Dawid Kownacki played for GKP Gorzów Wielkopolski until 2005, before moving to the youth academy of the first division club Lech Posen in 2005 at the age of eight . There he made the leap to the first team in the 2013/14 season . He is now a permanent fixture in the Lech Poznan team and is regularly deployed. In the summer of 2015, Kownacki won his first two senior titles with the championship and the Super Cup. He is considered one of the greatest talents in Polish football.

In the summer of 2017, Kownacki moved to Sampdoria Genua .

Fortuna Dusseldorf

At the end of January 2019, Kownacki initially moved to the Bundesliga for the promoted Fortuna Düsseldorf on loan until the end of the 2018/19 season . By the end of the season he was under the head coach Friedhelm Funkel in 10 Bundesliga games (7 times from the start) in which he scored 4 goals, including a double against FC Schalke 04 . After a strong second half, Fortuna Düsseldorf finished the season as the best climber in 10th place.

For the 2019/20 season , Kownacki's loan contract in Düsseldorf was extended for another year. After his fourth deployment, a purchase option came into effect at the end of September 2019, with which Fortuna Düsseldorf acquired the transfer rights and its contract was extended until June 30, 2023.

National team

On November 8, 2011, Kownacki made his debut at the age of 14 for the Polish U-15 national team and scored three goals in the 5-3 win against Germany . As a result, he also ran for the U-16 , U-17 and U-19 national teams of Poland . With the Polish U-21 national team , he took part in the U-21 European Football Championship in 2017 ; at the U-21 European Championship 2019 he led his team as captain. In each case, however, he failed with his team in the preliminary round. In total, he completed 22 U-21 internationals, in which he scored 15 goals.

Dawid Kownacki was appointed to the Polish national team by national coach Adam Nawałka for the European Championship qualifier against Georgia on June 13, 2015 and the friendly against Greece on June 16, 2015 . On March 23, 2018, he made his debut in the friendly against Nigeria . In his second appearance, the 4-0 win against Lithuania , he scored his first international goal.

At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, he was part of the Polish squad . He came to two missions and retired with the team after the group stage.
