Oberland (Helgoland)
Oberland is the name of the plateau on the island of Helgoland . In addition, the island is divided into lowlands and midlands (created by the blast). The highest point of the Oberland is the Pinneberg at 61.3 m above sea level , which represents the edge of a demolition crater and was only given this unofficial name in 1998. The Oberland can be reached by an elevator or by three flights of stairs with 182 to 260 steps. In addition, near the youth hostel on the north beach, the Jägersteig leads from the northeast to the Oberland. A road leads from the port in the south of the island over the central plateau to the Oberland. In the middle of the residential area in the southern part is the Church of St. Nicolai . The striking buildings include the 35 m high lighthouse , which emerged from the former Flakleitturm, and the 135 m high antenna of the Helgoland transmitter . In 1965, 500 unexploded bombs were still suspected in the undeveloped part of the Oberland .
