From his father William Kerr, 1st Earl of Lothian , he had inherited the titles Earl of Lothian and Lord Kerr of Newbottle , conferred on him in 1631, in 1675 , and the title Earl created in 1633 from his uncle, Charles Kerr, 2nd Earl of Ancram , in 1690 of Ancram and Lord Kerr of Nisbet, Langnewtoun, and Dolphinstoun . The 6th Marquess was awarded the title Baron Ker , of Kersheugh in the County of Roxburgh on April 17, 1821 .
