The VfB Kirchhellen (full name: Verein für Bewegungsspiele 1920 eV ) is a sports club from the Kirchhellen district of Bottrop . The first soccer team played between 1998 and 2001 in the then fourth-class Oberliga Westfalen .

history

The club was founded on May 25, 1920. Two years later, the Sportfreunde 1921 Kirchhellen club, founded the previous year, joined VfB. Until the 1980s, the team commuted between the district and district league. In 1985, VfB rose to the national league for the first time and belonged to this class until 1989. After the promotion in 1992, the promotion to the association league followed two years later . In 1998 the team rose as champions of the southern group in the Oberliga Westfalen. In the 1998/99 season the Kirchheller took eleventh place. After a twelfth place a year later , the team had to relegate again in 2001 as the knocked-down bottom of the table. The first of two victories of the season was not achieved until matchday 31.

Due to major financial problems, the club renounced its place in the association league and dared a fresh start in the Gelsenkirchen district league A. In 2006 he was promoted to the district league, which could be held until 2012. In 2019 they were promoted to the district league again after VfB prevailed on penalties in the final of the district championship against Eintracht Gelsenkirchen .
