The 2019/20 season was the 17th season of the A-Juniors Bundesliga . It opened on August 10, 2019, and the last games took place on March 11, 2020. The season was then interrupted until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic and finally declared prematurely ended after a decision by the DFB on May 25, 2020.
As in the previous 14 seasons, the season was played in the North / Northeast, South / Southwest and West seasons. At the end of the season, the three season winners and the runner-up in the West season should have played for the German A-Juniors soccer championship . The semi-finals would have been played back and forth, the final in one game. The three last-placed teams of the three seasons would have been relegated to the subordinate leagues.
Borussia Dortmund started the season as reigning champions, VfB Stuttgart as cup winners .
Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic
In parallel to the men's and women's divisions, after the last games were played on March 11, 2020, the A-Junioren-Bundesliga was also suspended indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic . At an extraordinary DFB Bundestag on May 25, 2020, the 2019/20 season was finally declared over. Because of this, no master could be played, instead there were only three season winners, relegations from the league were also suspended. Promotion to the Bundesliga, however, should be possible. The rating per relay was based on the last table status using the quotient rule (points average per completed game). The quotient rule was not applied to the West relay because all teams had played the same number of games.
At the beginning of August, the DFB held a draw between the three quotient champions. Since no championship finals had been played, a fixed starting place in the 2020/21 UEFA Youth League had to be allocated. The lot fell on 1. FC Köln .
