The season 2019/20 of the Oberliga Hamburg was the 75th season of the football Oberliga Hamburg and the 12th as the fifth highest division in Germany. It was opened on July 26, 2019 with the game between Niendorfer TSV and SC Victoria Hamburg . From December 9, 2019 to February 14, 2020, the season was interrupted by the winter break, and again on March 13 due to the COVID-19 pandemic , which ultimately resulted in the interruption on June 23.
Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic
The HFV announced on March 13, 2020 that it would initially cease playing in the Hamburg Oberliga until March 31, 2020 inclusive. The DFB then announced the final decision of the 21 regional associations to suspend play from the regional league downwards until further notice. A resumption should be announced with a lead time of 14 days.
Based on a resolution of the NFV on May 22, 2020, the 2019/20 season of the Regionalliga Nord was ended prematurely. In addition, it was decided not to carry out a promotion relegation, as was common in previous years, but instead to allow five direct promoters from the four major leagues to participate in the 2020/21 regional league season . In the Hamburg Oberliga, only FC Teutonia 05 Ottensen applied for admission to the regional league on time and was thus allowed to advance. On an extraordinary NFV association day on June 22nd, the final decision was made about the evaluation of the season. Accordingly, a final table was drawn up based on the quotient rule (number of points scored divided by number of games played), there were no relegations to and from the Hamburg Oberliga. Since the promotion games between the quotient runners-up in the regional league were omitted, only the best quotients were allowed to move up in the following season .
