The FC Union Tornesch (officially: Football Club "Union" Tornesch from 1921 eV ) is a football club from Tornesch in the Pinneberg district . The men's first team rose to the Hamburg Oberliga in 2019 .

history

The club was founded in the summer of 1921 as FC Union Esingen . After the end of the Second World War , the association was no longer allowed to use its name. Therefore, in 1946, the SV Blau-Weiß Tornesch was founded as a successor club. Three years later, the club took its current name. At the same time, all other sports except football were given up. Although the club is based in Schleswig-Holstein , the Union teams take part in the games run by the Hamburg Football Association .

Men

The men's team played from 1948 to 1952, from 1953 to 1955 and from 1964 to 1969 in the second-highest Hamburg amateur league and mostly commuted between the district league and the district league. The sporting upswing began in the mid-2010s with a renewed promotion to the district league in 2014, which was followed two years later by promotion to the regional league . There the Tornescher came third in 2019. Since league champions Altona 93 rose to the Regionalliga Nord and the Wedeler TSV withdrew their team from the league, a playoff between the third of the two national league seasons took place. Union won the game against VfL Lohbrügge 2-1 and rose.

Women

In 1970 the club founded a women's team. Only in the early 1990s could Union not provide a team. Unions women's team has been playing in Hamburg's top division since 2008. The greatest successes were the 2016 and 2017 runner-up championships behind FC St. Pauli and Walddörfer SV . In 2019, the Tornescherinnen reached the final of the Hamburger Pokal, but they lost 4-2 to Hamburger SV .
