The football league 2019/20 is the twelfth season of the league as the fifth highest division in football in Germany . Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , all major leagues had to be canceled.

Promotion to the regional league
Regionalliga North
The presidium of the North German Football Association decided on May 22nd to end the season and to forego a promotion round to the Regionalliga Nord. There were five direct promoters from the Oberliga Schleswig-Holstein, Oberliga Hamburg, Bremen-Liga and Oberliga Niedersachsen (two teams). The best teams according to the quotient regulation, whose application for admission to the Regionalliga Nord was approved, were appointed as promoters. Have ascended:
- Schleswig-Holstein: 1. FC Phönix Lübeck (2nd place, only applicant)
- Hamburg: FC Teutonia 05 Ottensen (2nd place, only applicant)
- Bremen: FC Oberneuland (champions, only applicant)
- Lower Saxony: VfV 06 Hildesheim (champions), SV Atlas Delmenhorst (2nd place)
Regionalliga Northeast
The champions (according to the quotient regulation) of the North and South relay rose to the Regionalliga Nordost:
- North: Tennis Borussia Berlin
- South: FSV 63 Luckenwalde
Regionalliga West
The champions rose from the Mittelrheinliga, Oberliga Niederrhein and Oberliga Westfalen (two teams) according to the quotient regulation:
- Middle Rhine League: FC Wegberg-Beeck
- Lower Rhine: SV Straelen
- Westphalia: SC Wiedenbrück (champions), Rot Weiss Ahlen (2nd place)
Regionalliga southwest
The champions (according to the quotient regulation) of the Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saar, Oberliga Baden-Württemberg and Hessenliga rose to the Regionalliga Südwest as well as the other participant of the three upper leagues who were best according to the quotient regulation.
- Rhineland-Palatinate / Saar: TSV Schott Mainz
- Baden-Württemberg: VfB Stuttgart II
- Hessen: TSV Eintracht Stadtallendorf
- Best further participant of the three major leagues registered for promotion: KSV Hessen Kassel (2nd place Hessenliga)
Regionalliga Bayern
The planned 2019/20 season was extended to a season 2019-21 in both the Regionalliga Bayern and the Bayernliga, which means that a 2020/21 season will be omitted.
