The 1997/98 season of the Oberliga was the fourth season of the Oberliga as the fourth highest division in football in Germany after the introduction of the initially four-track - later three- and two-track - Regionalliga as the third highest division for the 1994/95 season.

Promotion to the regional league

North

The runners-up of the seasons Lower Saxony / Bremen, BV Cloppenburg , and Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein, TuS Hoisdorf , played the third promoted team in the Regionalliga Nord in two games after the end of the season . The first leg in Hoisdorf ended with a 2-1 win for the home side, despite a break from the break, before the Cloppenburg team clearly won the second leg 6-0 in their own stadium and secured promotion to the regional league.

The runner-up in the Oberligen Hessen , SV 1919 Bernbach , Baden-Württemberg , SC Pfullendorf , and the Bayernliga , SG Quelle Fürth , played another promoted player in the Regionalliga Süd in a single round .

With a win and a draw, SC Pfullendorf secured promotion to the regional league.
