The 1997/1998 Bundesliga was the eighth season of the women's Bundesliga. For the first time the Bundesliga played a single track. FSV Frankfurt became German champion for the third time . It was the last title for the Bornheimers .

Season course

A phalanx of clubs from the old northern group was placed behind the two Frankfurt teams. The dethroned title holder Brauweiler had to be content with fourth place. The relegation battle was dramatic. SC Klinge Seckach had to accept the descent with only one point behind the rescue bank . The second climber was last. The Hamburger SV , who as substitutes for Fortuna Sachsenroß Hanover was only ever come into the league, took a full five points.

The WSV Wolfsburg returned after a year in the Bundesliga back while SC Freiburg was able to rise for the first time.
