Season course
A phalanx of clubs from the old northern group was placed behind the two Frankfurt teams. The dethroned title holder Brauweiler had to be content with fourth place. The relegation battle was dramatic. SC Klinge Seckach had to accept the descent with only one point behind the rescue bank . The second climber was last. The Hamburger SV , who as substitutes for Fortuna Sachsenroß Hanover was only ever come into the league, took a full five points.
The WSV Wolfsburg returned after a year in the Bundesliga back while SC Freiburg was able to rise for the first time.
