The 2011/12 season was the 22nd season of the women's Bundesliga . The season began on August 21, 2011 and ended with the last day of the match on May 28, 2012. German champions were defending champions 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam with a three point lead over VfL Wolfsburg . For Potsdam it was the fourth championship title in a row and the sixth all-German championship ever. Potsdam and Wolfsburg qualified for the Champions League .

The only sporting relegation was 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig . The Hamburger SV drew his team for financial reasons voluntarily to the Regionalliga back. FSV Gütersloh 2009 and VfL Sindelfingen rise from the 2nd Bundesliga . Genoveva Añonma from the champions from Potsdam was top scorer with 22 goals. For the first time in the history of the Bundesliga, a foreign player scored the most goals in a season.

Closing table

Up to the penultimate matchday three teams still had the mathematical possibility of winning the title. Potsdam led the table with 50 points ahead of Wolfsburg (49) and Duisburg (45). Frankfurt was already out of the race with 43 points. Since the first four of the table met directly on matchday 21, it was called a “super Sunday”. Potsdam won the game in Duisburg with two goals from Patricia Hanebeck with 2-0, while pursuers Wolfsburg defeated Frankfurt with a penalty goal from Lena Goeßling .

A preliminary decision in the relegation battle was made before the last match day when Hamburger SV announced that it would withdraw its application for a place in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga. On the last day of the match, defending champions Potsdam secured the championship with a clear 8-0 win over Lokomotive Leipzig. For the first time, a team was able to win four championships in a row. For Leipzig, however, the defeat meant relegation.
