The 2006/2007 Bundesliga was the 17th season of the women's Bundesliga . For the sixth time, 1. FFC Frankfurt secured the German championship.
Season course
The FCR 2001 Duisburg , the 1. FFC Frankfurt and 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam were before the season as favorites for the title. But already on the third match day it became clear that the Frankfurt women would have the edge in the end. The Duisburg team lost 1: 6 at home to the Hessians, the defending champion from Potsdam lost two of the first three games. At the end of the first half of the season the Frankfurt women led the table with one point ahead of Duisburg, Potsdam was twelve points behind the top of the table in fifth place. The SG Essen-Schönebeck team was surprisingly third . In the second half of the season, the preliminary decision in the fight for the championship was made on matchday 14 when Frankfurt clearly defeated the pursuers from Duisburg in the home stadium at Brentanobad 3-0. On the third to last game day, pursuers Duisburg lost 1-0 at home to Potsdam. A week later, Frankfurt made the championship perfect with a 9-0 win in Bad Neuenahr.
In the end, 1. FFC Frankfurt was unbeaten champions with a nine point lead. Duisburg had a turbulent season. In autumn the club made by the suspension of Inka Grings headlines. Grings had publicly criticized the then coach Dietmar Herhaus and threatened to change. Herhaus resigned shortly after the suspension. After a discussion, Grings was pardoned. In addition to Grings, Fatmire Bajramaj and Simone Laudehr played a particularly prominent role. Potsdam was able to secure third place after a completely screwed up first half of the season. Coach Bernd Schröder relied on young players after Conny Pohlers and Navina Omilade had announced their changes for the coming season. With success: The team remained without defeat in the last 15 games of the season. Bayern Munich managed a big surprise . Trainer Sissy Raith led her young team to fourth place. There was nothing for Bayern to win against the top teams. SC 07 Bad Neuenahr , who suffered from an injury mishap, came in fifth . After the broken shin of national player Célia Okoyino da Mbabi , not much went together and they were happy when the season was finally over. The Essen women slackened considerably in the second half of the season, also due to many injuries, and ended up in sixth place in the table. Linda Bresonik played an outstanding season and returned to the national team.
The promoted TSV Crailsheim ended the season surprisingly in 7th place after strong performances. Among other things, the Hohenlohe women managed to win points against Duisburg. The ambitious newcomer VfL Wolfsburg was rarely able to meet the high expectations and ended up in eighth place. Hamburger SV and SC Freiburg found themselves in ninth and tenth place . At HSV, they actually wanted to establish themselves in the upper half of the table. However, too many awarded points put the team in danger of relegation. Freiburg also had to tremble for a long time before the team was able to breathe with a 4-0 win against Rheine. The traditional clubs FFC Heike Rheine and FFC Brauweiler Pulheim 2000 , which did not score a single point during the entire season and thus set a new negative record in the single-track Bundesliga, had to relegate. Both clubs had the lowest budgets in the league. Away from the pitches, the Bundesliga was able to look forward to an increased TV presence. ARD and ZDF showed reports on the top games in their sports programs.
