Conny Pohlers (born November 16, 1978 in Halle / Saale ) is a former German soccer player . Over the course of her 20-year career, apart from two short stints in the USA, the striker played 13 years for 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam , four years for 1. FFC Frankfurt and three years for VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga . With the three clubs she won the Champions League four times, the German championship five times and the DFB Cup six times before ending her career in the summer of 2014.
From 2001 to 2011 she was active in the German national team and became world champion in 2003 and European champion in 2005 .
Athletic career
Club soccer
Conny Pohlers comes from a soccer family. Her father was active at the local level, her mother was once the top scorer at BSG Chemie Buna Schkopau. She herself began playing football in the club at the age of seven at FSV 67 Halle (until 1990: BSG WBK 67 Halle-Neustadt). In 1994 she moved to the 1st FFC Turbine Potsdam . After an interlude at TuS Niederkirchen in 1997, she returned to Potsdam. In 2003 she played for Atlanta Beat in the American professional league WUSA . In summer 2007 she moved to 1. FFC Frankfurt . Shortly before the start of the 2008/09 season, Pohlers was diagnosed with cartilage damage, which forced them to take a break from playing for over a year. It was only in October 2009 that she was able to celebrate her comeback in a competitive game in the 2nd team of 1. FFC Frankfurt. For the 2011/12 season she moved to VfL Wolfsburg, with whom she won the German championship and the DFB Cup in 2013. On 11 June 2013, announced that Pohlers on loan to NWSL - Franchise Washington Spirit changes. After the 2013/14 season, she ended her career.
With Potsdam Pohlers was twice German champion, five times cup winner and twice indoor cup winner. In 2002, 2006 and 2011 she was the top scorer in the Bundesliga. The greatest success at club level was winning the UEFA Women's Champions League in 2005 (with Potsdam), 2008 (with Frankfurt), 2013 and 2014 (both with Wolfsburg). In the election for football player of the year 2006, she finished second behind Birgit Prinz .
National team
With a total of 30 appearances, Conny Pohlers is the record player for the U-21 national team. In 2002 she took second place in the Nordic Cup after losing to the USA in the final.
She made her national team debut on May 10, 2001 against Italy . On October 25, 2001, she scored five goals in the international match against Portugal, surpassing the previous record held by Heidi Mohr .
With the national team, she became world champion in 2003 . In 2005 she won the European Championship. At the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 and in Beijing in 2008 she won the bronze medal. She was awarded the silver bay leaf for her sporting success .
In April 2007, she was nominated for the FIFA Women's World Stars game against the Chinese women's national soccer team on the occasion of the group draw for the 2007 World Cup , in which she scored the first goal in the fourth minute.

Private
Conny Pohlers was a temporary soldier in the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr in Warendorf. She is a state-recognized educator and completed a sports management distance learning course.
In July 2014 she founded the sports management agency mainsoccer GmbH together with her former teammate Navina Omilade and the sports manager Philipp Schober .
She gave birth to a son on April 22, 2015.
