Julie Fleeting , MBE (born December 18, 1980 in Kilwinning ) is a former Scottish soccer player . She played for the Arsenal Ladies for several years and was the captain of the Scottish national team , of which she is the record scorer.

Career

Julie Fleeting began her football career at Ross County . In November 1996, she made her debut at the age of fifteen in the game against Wales in the Scottish national team. On September 3, 1997, she scored her first international goals in a 7-1 World Cup qualifier against Estonia. In 2002 she moved to the US professional league WUSA , where she played for San Diego Spirit . In January 2004 she finally moved to Arsenal, where she is still active today. In the 2005 Cup final against Charlton Athletic , she scored a hat trick after suffering a shin injury in an international match the day before . In the UEFA Women's Cup Fleeting made headlines after it on 12 September 2006 at 5: 4 victory over Russian champions WFC Rossiyanka scored all five goals for Arsenal.

In 120 international matches between 1996 and 2011, she scored 116 goals for Scotland. It should be noted, however, that the Scottish Association also includes international matches against non-FIFA members in these statistics. Their statistics also take into account their 16 goals in Scotland's 27-0 victory over a selection of the Isle of Man . On February 8, 2015, after a three-and-a-half year break, she came back to play in a 4-0 win against Northern Ireland . This was her last assignment for Scotland.

Private

Julie Fleeting is the daughter of Jim Fleeting , a former soccer player and current coach, and is married to Colin Stewart, the goalkeeper of Greenock Morton . But she kept her maiden name. Her main job is as a physical education teacher in her home town . She was flown in every time to the Arsenal games. From December 2008 she took a break from playing because she was expecting her first child, who was born in July 2009. In April 2012 she had her second child, another daughter. In 2017 the couple had a third daughter.

Former Scottish international Jim Stewart is her father-in-law.
