Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark - venue of the final
The 2014/15 UEFA Women's Champions League was the fourteenth edition of the European championship for women's football clubs and the sixth under this name. 54 teams from 46 countries competed for the title. The competition began with the first games of the qualifying round on August 9, 2014 and ended with the final in Berlin's Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark on May 14, 2015. The defending champion was VfL Wolfsburg for the second time in a row , who played in the semifinals against Paris Saint-Germain retired. The German representative 1. FFC Frankfurt won the title with a 2-1 final win against Paris Saint-Germain.
Attendees
46 national champions and the runners-up from the eight strongest national associations took part in the 2014/15 UEFA Women's Champions League. The UEFA five-year rating was used to determine the eight strongest national associations . The 14 national champions of the strongest regional associations as well as the eight runner-ups received a bye and only intervened in the competition in the sixteenth finals. The remaining national champions first had to take part in a qualifying round.
mode
First, the clubs from the 32 worst-placed associations played ten participants in a qualifying round for the main round, in which 22 other clubs were added. The games of the main round up to and including the semi-finals were played in home and return legs. The team that scored more goals in both games advanced to the next round. If both teams scored the same number of goals, the number of away goals decided. If the number of away goals was the same, the second leg was extended. If both teams scored the same number of goals in extra time, the away team won due to the more goals scored away. If no goals were scored, the match was decided on penalties. The final was decided in one game.
qualification
The eight mini-tournaments were held from August 9th to 14th, 2014. For this purpose, the participating teams were divided into groups of four teams in a lottery procedure, the exact number of groups depending on the number of participating teams. Each group held its mini-tournament in a different country. The group winners and the two best-placed runners-up qualified for the round of 32, in which the seeded teams and the runner-ups intervene in the competition. When determining the best runner-up, the game against the respective bottom of the group was not taken into account.
The group draw for the qualification took place on June 26, 2014 in Nyon .
