Åland United is a Finnish women's football club from Mariehamn , the capital of the autonomous Finnish region of Åland . The first team plays in the Naisten Liiga , the top division in Finnish women's football.
history
In 2004 the clubs Lemlands IF and IF Finströms Kamraterna, in cooperation with IFK Mariehamn, decided to promote and professionalize women's football in Åland more strongly. A common team was formed that made it to the top Finnish league under the name Lemlands IF in the 2005 season. With the rise followed the name change to Åland United. In the 2009 season, the team secured the championship early, which they qualified for the 2010/11 UEFA Women's Champions League . After a bye for the qualifying phase, Åland United failed there in the round of 32 against defending champion 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam with 0: 9 and 0: 6.
