From 1993 the club went back to the third division and in 2003 managed to move up to the second division ( Ykkönen ). There the club was runner-up and prevailed in the relegation games against FC Jazz Pori with 1-0 and 2-2, making the direct march into the Finnish upper house, the Veikkausliiga , succeeded. As table twelfth, the league could be made. Since then, the club has stayed in the league and finished fourth in 2009, 2012 and 2013, each of its best final placements.
In 2012, Mariehamn qualified as a fair play winner for the first time for the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League .
On October 23, 2016, Mariehamn secured the Finnish championship with a 2-1 win over Tampereen Ilves . It is the first championship title in the club's history.
