The FC Lahti is a football club from the southern Finnish city Lahti , in 1996 through the merger of Reipas Lahti and FC Kuusysi emerged. The club played from 1999 to 2010 and since 2012 again in the top Finnish league, the Veikkausliiga .

history

Lahden Reipas achieved his greatest successes in the 1960s and 1970s when they became Finnish champions three times and won the national cup seven times . Between 1981 and 1991 Kuusysi Lahti was five times champion and twice cup winner.

At the time of the merger in 1996, both clubs were playing in the second-class Ykkönen , in 1998 FC Lahti was promoted to the Veikkausliiga, where in the 2008 season he achieved his best ranking so far in third place. In 2002 he was in the cup final, which was lost to FC Haka 1: 4. FC Lahti won his first title after the merger in 2007 in the league cup , in which he had already been in the 2004 and 2005 final.

Third in the championship, FC Lahti took part in qualifying for the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League . After victories against Dinamo Tirana and ND Gorica , the team was eliminated in the third round against Club Bruges .

Trivia

The Finnish folk metal band Korpiklaani (Finnish. "Klan der Wildnis", also "Klan des Waldes"), also from Lahti, has released a song called "FC Lahti" for their favorite football club.
