history
Shortly after it was founded, TPS replaced Åbo IFK as the number 1 in the city and became Finnish champions for the first time in 1928. In the years 1939, 1941 and 1949 the championship title could also be achieved. A dry spell followed in the 1950s and the move to the second division for five years. After rising again, TPS won the title in 1968, 1971, 1972 and 1975. The club celebrated their first cup victory in 1991. The Finnish Cup was also won in 1994. At the end of the 2014 season, the TPS was relegated to the Ykkönen . After being promoted and relegated again in the meantime, TPS failed in two relegation games in 2016 for promotion to the top Finnish league, the Veikkausliiga , to Inter Turku (0-0, 0-2).
With the participation in the European Cup of National Champions in 1969 Turku appeared on the international stage for the first time. The biggest international success was a 1-0 win at Inter Milan in the second round of the 1987/88 UEFA Cup . You dropped out anyway.
