The Mestaruussarja 1948 was the 18th season of the Finnish football championship since its introduction in 1930. It was also the first season of the Mestaruussarja, in which clubs of both major sports associations played the championship together in one league. The best eight teams from the previous season of the national sports association and the workers' sports association TUL had qualified for this.

The game was played from July 18 to November 7, 1948 in a simple round, with each team having to play 15 games. Since 1949 the Mestaruussarja was reduced to twelve teams, there were six relegated and two promoted. The championship was secured by Vaasan PS , who defeated Turku PS 3-0 in a tie-in game played on points . The TUL clubs had little to do with the championship: Turun Weikot came in seventh as the best TUL club. Five of the six relegated clubs were members of the TUL.

    Due to a tie after 15 matchdays, the table top Vaasan PS and the table runner-up TPS Turku played a decider for the 1948 Finnish football championship:
