Initially, all twelve teams met twice in the main round. After that, the first six teams in the championship round determined the champion, while the last six teams played in the relegation round. In these rounds, only the first half of the season was played, so there were five game days each. The points from the main round were taken over.
The champions take part in qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. In the UEFA Europa League, the runner-up and the cup winner as well as the winner of the Europa League play-off take part. The bottom of the table was relegated directly, the penultimate must be relegated.

Play-off Europa League
Teams three to six and the best team in the relegation round were qualified to determine the third participant for the Europa League. Since Tampereen Ilves was already qualified as a cup winner for the Europa League, FC Lahti moved up as second-placed in the relegation round.
