history
The original stadium called Hietalahden jalkapallostadion ( German Hietalahti football stadium , Swedish Sandvikens fotbollsstadion ) was opened in 1936. In 1995 the sports facility was renovated. The athletics facility around the field was removed and a pure football stadium was created. The natural lawn received underfloor heating and an irrigation system . In 1998 the stadium was supplemented with a floodlight system. Until the renovation, the stadium had 4500 seats, of which the 1300 seats in the main stand were covered.
The venue was expanded between July 2015 and July 2016. The opposite stand and the stands behind the gate were demolished and replaced by new buildings. The new tiers are clad with a facade made of vertical metal struts. The old main grandstand was placed under monument protection by the Museovirasto and has been preserved. The playing surface made of natural grass was replaced by artificial grass that meets the requirements of FIFA and UEFA . The Elisa Stadium offers u. a. nine boxes, a restaurant with a maximum of 487 seats, conference rooms , a fitness studio and a sauna .
In September 2015, the Finnish telecommunications company Elisa became the name sponsor of the stadium in Vaasa. The contract has a term of six years. For this Elisa pays 900,000 euros to the city.
