The Rovaniemen keskuskenttä ( German Rovaniemi Central Park ) is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Finnish city of Rovaniemi , Lapland . The green plastic sheet has three tracks. There is an additional lane in front of the main grandstand built in 2015 with around 2000 covered seats. On the back straight there is another tier with around 800 covered seats. There is a total of 4768 spectators in the stadium. The football club Rovaniemi PS (RoPS) from the Veikkausliiga is based here. In addition, FC Santa Claus , Rovaniemi United FC (Roi United) and RoPo , all in the fourth-highest division Kolmonen , use the stadium.

history

The facility was built in 1953. In 1982 the natural grass field was renewed. In 2007 the venue was to be renovated. The city postponed the beginning to June 2008. a. a floodlight system with 1000 lux illuminance was set up. In the summer of 2009, artificial turf with turf heating replaced the natural green of the playing field. A new service building was also built. A grenade from the Second World War was discovered on June 8, 2009 during excavation work to relocate the new playing area . The 105 mm bullet was 40 cm long and 10 cm wide and was blown up by ordnance disposal specialists in the Finnish armed forces . The cost of the heated lawn was 1.5 million euros. In 2010 the athletics facility got a new surface. The new main grandstand was completed in summer 2015, and construction began in autumn 2014. It has plastic seats in white, blue and green and cost around 4.8 million euros . It was inaugurated on July 10th of the year in front of 4768 spectators with the game RoPS against the record champions HJK Helsinki (2: 1).
