history

The Tammela Stadium in August 2006. On the left the rear grandstand in the west, in the middle the small tier and on the right the main grandstand.

In 1926 the city decided to build a football stadium. However, there was a lack of financial resources and construction was delayed. The facility was opened in 1931. In 1937 more grandstands were added. In 1993 the sports facility was renovated and expanded. In 2001 the final of the Finnish Football Cup took place in the stadium in Tampere between Atlantis FC from the capital Helsinki and Tampere United (1-0) in front of 3,820 visitors. In 2002 the seats were renewed. The grandstands currently offer 5,050 covered seats for the spectators.

There are plans to rebuild the Tammela Stadium. A design competition started in December 2013, which JKMM Architects won in 2014. In 2015 the plans were modified slightly. The new football stadium will offer 7,250 covered seats, 170 apartments and almost 7,000 m 2 of office and commercial space as well as underground parking. The playing field would be rotated by 90 ° . However, there is currently no more precise schedule for the implementation of the construction project.
