Tampere United is a Finnish football club based in Tampere . The club's first team currently plays in Kakkonen , the third division in Finland.
history
The association was founded in July 1998 when the two local associations Tampereen Ilves and Tampere PV ( TPV ) should merge. However, it was only the re-establishment of Tampere United, which took over the league membership of Ilves in the second-class Ykkönen . TPV and Ilves continue to take part in games independently today.
Tampere United was very successful in sport. From the 2000 season the club played in the Veikkausliiga . The first Finnish championship in 2001 was followed by two more in 2006 and 2007.
On April 14, 2011, the club was excluded from the Veikkausliiga by the Finnish Football Association. Tampere United reportedly received funds from a dubious Singapore company that hit the headlines for betting manipulation and money laundering .
The club had to start from the seventh division in Finland in 2012. The first team has been playing in Kakkonen , the third division in Finland, since 2017 .
