UEFA Intertoto Cup 2006

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Standard division of the clubs into three groups. In 2006 there were three deviations from this breakdown.

The UEFA Intertoto Cup 2006 brought some innovations with it. There were now only three instead of five qualifying rounds, and eleven teams qualified for the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup (instead of three teams that qualify for the first round).

The Italian Football Association waived its seat due to the Serie A scandal . Instead, France, represented by AJ Auxerre, was allowed to send a second representative, who took this place in the third round.

The German starter for the UI Cup 2006 was Hertha BSC , one of the eleven winners who qualified for the UEFA Cup . Austria sent SV Ried , Switzerland the Grasshopper Club Zurich . CS Grevenmacher started in the UI-Cup for Luxembourg . Liechtenstein did not have the right to start.

Zurich and Ried joined in round 2, Berlin in round 3; Grevenmacher already started in the first UI Cup round.

In order to keep travel costs down for the clubs, all teams were divided into three groups according to geographical and logistical reasons: Northern, Central and Southern Europe. In order to compensate for the odd number of participants in the groups, the following changes applied to the 2006 competition: Luxembourg (from round 1) and Belgium (from round 3) belonged to Central Europe and Hungary (from round 2) belonged to Southern Europe.
