The Shelbourne FC won the championship for the 13th time.

    Relegation

    The eleventh of the League of Ireland played against the runner-up of the First Division, Dundalk FC , for relegation. Although Dundalk won the relegation games, but stayed in the First Division, as the league was reorganized according to a ranking published by the association. Ironically, the defeated opponent Waterford United received a place in the Premier Division in 2007.
