The Waterford Regional Sports Center ( Irish Ionad Spóirt Réigiúnach Phort Láirge ) is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Irish city of Waterford , the capital of the county of the same name . The football club Waterford FC wears their home games. The Regional Sports Center also has an 18-hole golf course , a sports hall , several football and tennis courts and a skate park . Currently (2019) it offers 5500 seats for the audience, including 3100 seats. The sports facility is also used by the athletes from the WIT Athletic Club of the Waterford Institute of Technology .
history
Construction of the Regional Sports Center began in 1992 and was completed the following year. In the 1993/94 season, Waterford FC moved from their old venue, Kilcohan Park , which used to be a football stadium and is now a greyhound track , to the new building. At that time, the sports facility only had the covered grandstand with less than 1,300 seats on Cork Road. At the center line, it extends over a third of the length of the pitch. In 2009, another tier with 1760 seats was added to the stadium on the opposite side of Tramore Road. Both grandstands have glazed side walls that protect the spectators from rain and wind from the side. There are no roof supports obstructing the view in the spectator area. The RSC has a floodlight system that stands on four masts on each of the two long sides. Due to the running track and the long jump facility, the tiers are far away from the playing field. In 2017 the turf was voted the League of Ireland's top spot for the second time in two years .
On September 26th, 2009 the final of the League of Ireland Cup between Waterford FC and Bohemians Dublin (1: 3) took place at the RSC in front of 4000 visitors .
