League of Ireland Cup
The League of Ireland Cup is an Irish football competition hosted by the Football Association of Ireland and open to all teams in the League of Ireland .
Derry City is the record winner of the competition with eleven titles.
mode
The mode of competition has changed frequently in recent years. For a long time there were six groups that were divided according to regional criteria. The winners and the two best runners-up played the winner in cup mode. In the 1990s, the competition was held exclusively in cup mode. However, the concept was changed again and played in groups again, this time consisting of three teams and only the winner reached the next round. 2006 was played again in pure cup mode, with the draw for the first rounds took place from a regional point of view.
The mode of the finals has also been revised several times. There were versions with neutral final locations, two final games or a draw to determine who would receive home rights in the final game.
