history
Monaghan is a traditional club that usually ends the seasons in the lower half of the table of the lower division, the First Division , often even as penultimate or last, but nevertheless has a high reputation in the region.
The promotion to the Premier Division was only achieved twice . 1992/93 they finished third and could defeat Waterford United in the following relegation games . 2000/01 succeeded in direct promotion as runner-up in the First Division . The promotion was always followed by relegation in the first or second season of the first class.
The last promotion came after the 2011 season, but Monaghan had to withdraw after 14 rounds of the 2012 season due to financial problems, and therefore relegated in the coming season.
