First Division

The League of Ireland 2012 (officially: Airtricity League after the league sponsor Airtricity ) was the 92nd season of the top Irish football league. The season began on March 2, 2012 and ended on October 26, 2012 with the 33rd and final matchday.

Defending champion and record champion Shamrock Rovers only finished fourth. Master was Sligo Rovers and won the third title in their club history.

mode

Due to the league increase from ten to twelve clubs, the two first-placed teams of the First Division 2011 (second highest division) rose directly. These were Cork City and Shelbourne FC . In addition, the third-placed First Division, Monaghan United , defeated the last-placed League of Ireland 2011, Galway United , in the promotion playoff with 2-0 and 3-1, and therefore also rose.

The teams played against each other three times. The bottom of the table was relegated directly, the penultimate had to be relegated.
