Virslīga 2011

The Virslīga 2012 was the 21st season of the highest Latvian football league since it was re-established in 1992. It was hosted by the Latvian Football Association . The season began on March 24, 2012 and ended on November 10, 2012. The defending champion was FK Ventspils , who won the Latvian champions for the fourth time in the club's history last year.

The first Latvian champions in 2012 were FC Daugava Daugavpils .

mode

The league was played again this year with ten teams. This was decided by the Latvian Football Association at a meeting on December 9, 2011. The newcomers from the 1st league are FS Metta / Latvijas Universitāte and FK Spartaks Jūrmala . The FK Jūrmala-VV changed its name to FK Daugava Riga . The championship was played in a regular season in two first and two second round matches. Each team competed four times against every other team. The defending champions FK Ventspils won 3-2 in their first game against the newcomer FK Spartaks. The bottom of the table FB Gulbene was relegated to the second class 1. līga, the ninth-placed FK Daugava Riga played in the relegation against BFC Daugava .
