The Virslīga 2017 was the 26th season of the highest Latvian football league since it was founded in 1992. It was hosted by the Latvian Football Association . The season started on March 10, 2017 and ended on November 4, 2017.
The FK Spartaks Jūrmala was able to successfully defend the title from the previous year, and was Latvian champions for the second time.

The league started with eight clubs.
On June 22, 2017, newcomer SK Babīte was expelled from the league after the Latvian Football Association received a notification of betting fraud for six games in which Babīte was involved. As a result, all twelve games so far played by Babīte have been canceled.
The remaining seven teams played 24 season games in two first and two second round games. Each team competed four times against every other team. SK Babīte was excluded from the Virslīga, the penultimate had to be relegated.

Relegation
At the end of the regular season, the runner-up of the 1st līga went against the seventh-placed Virslīga in the relegation. The games were on November 16 and 20, 2017.
