Virslīga 1997

The Virslīga 1998 was the seventh season of the highest Latvian football league of men, since its re-establishment in 1992. It was played by the Latvian Football Association . The season started on April 18, 1998 and ended on November 7, 1998.

Skonto Riga became Latvian champions for the seventh time in a row.

mode

Two teams (FK Lokomotīve Daugavpils and FK Universitāte Riga) left the league for financial reasons at the end of last season. In return, only one club was promoted with FK Ranto-Miks. The eight teams each played against each other four times and played a total of 28 season games. The bottom of the table was relegated. In addition, another place in the Virslīga was vacated by LU / Daugava Riga, as it was decided to play second class for financial reasons in the following season.
