Vīts Rimkus (born June 21, 1973 in Riga ) is a Latvian football player .
Club career
Rimkus began his career with the Latvian clubs Pārdaugava Rīga, FK DAG and Amstrig Riga . He then played briefly for FC Winterthur in Switzerland. In 1996 he moved to the second division 1. FC Nürnberg in the regional league . He managed with them the direct promotion, and left the club in the direction of FC Erzgebirge Aue in the Regionalliga Nordost . Here, too, he only stayed one season and went to Skonto FC in Virslīga . With them he won the Latvian championship at the end of the season. Then he left the team and joined FK Valmiera for two seasons .
In 2001 he moved again and signed with FK Ventspils . He played 100 league games for them in four seasons, scored 70 goals and won the Latvian Cup twice. In 2005 Rimkus ran nine times in the Russian Premier League for FK Rostov . and returned to FK Ventspils in the same year. With them he won the Latvian Cup in 2005, the championship in 2006 and the double in 2007. In 2007 he also won the top scorer's crown with 20 goals and was voted the best player in the Latvian league.
National team
Vīts Rimkus has played for the Latvian national football team since 1995 . He made his debut on June 3, 1995 when his team lost 3-2 away in Portugal . In 2004 he qualified with Latvia for the European Championship in Portugal. This was Latvia’s first participation in a major tournament. In the first group game against the Czech Republic , Rimkus came on in the 90th minute. He did not come to another mission. As of July 2008, he played 73 games in the national team and scored eleven goals.
