Antons Jemeļins (born February 19, 1984 in Liepāja ) is a Latvian football player .

Career

society

Antons Jemeļins began his career in his hometown Liepāja , in the youth of FK Metalurgs . At the age of 20 he made his debut in the Virslīga , the top division in the country. From 2004 to 2011 he played a total of 95 times in eight seasons for Metalurgs and scored 13 goals. With the team he was also able to win numerous titles in Latvia, including a cup win in 2006 and two championships in the 2005 and 2009 seasons . In the 2012 season he played for a year for FK Spartaks Jūrmala , only to switch back to his home club from Liepāja the following year. He played 20 games for FK Liepājas Metalurgs in the 2013 season before the club went bankrupt in November 2013. As a player without a contract, he moved to Moldova to FC Tiraspol in January 2014.

National team

His only international match for the Latvian national team to date made Jemeļins in 2005 against Belarus , which was played in Vitebsk . Under the Latvian coaching legend Aleksandrs Starkovs , the defensive player was on the starting line-up and was substituted for Dzintars Zirnis in the 56th minute of the game . Most recently he was in the Latvian squad for the Baltic Cup 2012 , which was held in Estonia , but remained there when his team won the title without a minute.
