The Baltic Cup 2012 for national football teams took place between June 1st and 3rd, 2012 in Estonia . It was the 44th edition of the Baltic Countries Tournament since it was first held in 1928 .
This year Finland took part in the tournament for the first time. Unlike in previous years, the game was not played in the “ everyone against everyone ” mode , but instead a tournament with two semi-finals, a game for third place and a final. The reason for this was the declaration by the Latvian Football Association that it would not play more than two international matches. The games were held in Tartu ( Tamme stadium ) and Võru ( Võru stadium ). Host Estonia played in the semi-finals against the Finnish selection for the second time in their international history in Tartu. The first time this happened in 1997 against the Faroese national football team . Finland reached the final against Latvia by beating Estonia. The Latvian national team had defeated Lithuania in their semi-final match. In the final, Latvia won the game on penalties 6-5, winning their 21st title.
