The Baltic Cup 1937 was the 9th edition of the tournament of the Baltic countries . The tournament for national football teams took place in Lithuania between September 3 and 7, 1937 . The games were played in the Valstybinis Stadionas in Kaunas . For the first time a final of the Baltic Cup was played, which was won by the Latvian national soccer team , with Iļja Vestermans from Hakoah Riga , the Latvians were the top scorer of the tournament. The Austrian referee Hans Frankenstein directed the four international matches. The first game between Lithuania and Latvia was also the second leg of the first qualifying round for the 1938 World Cup . After the Latvian national team won the first leg in Riga 4-2 against Lithuania, the second was also successfully contested. In the second round, Latvia was eliminated by Austria .
