Valter Neeris (born March 8 . Jul / 21st March  1915 greg. In Tallinn , Governorate of Estonia ; † the 30th December 1942 at Velikiye Luki , Soviet Union ) was an Estonian footballer . He is still one of the best Estonian defensive players before the Second World War.

Career

Valter Neeris was born in Tallinn, the capital of the Estonian governorate , in 1915 . Until 1929 he attended a primary school in Tallinn.

From 1934 to 1940 Neeris was active as a football player. Playing in the position of defender, Neeris won the Estonian football championship six times with JS Estonia Tallinn between 1934 and 1939 . Together with players such as Elmar Tepp , Leonhard Kass , Egon Parbo , Heinrich Uukkivi , Elmar Saar and others, Neeris shaped football in Estonia before the Second World War.

In June 1934 Neeris made his debut together with his goalkeeper from the home club Estonia Tallinn Evald Mikson in the Estonian national team in the game against Lithuania in Kaunas.

In his third international match against Hungary in August 1934, he scored the first and only goal in the national jersey.

Neeris took part in the Baltic Cup four times with the national team, and won the event in 1938 . Neeris also played in two games against Finland and Germany in the qualifying round for the 3rd World Cup in 1938 .

For Estonia's national football team, Valter Neeris made a total of 36 appearances, in which he scored 1 goal.

death

As a soldier in World War II , Neeris was killed on December 30, 1942 in the Battle of Velikiye Luki on the Kalinin Front . He was part of the 7th Estonian Infantry Divisions (7th Eesti Laskurdiviis) under Lieutenant August Vassil.
