Elmar Tepp (born April 17 . Jul / the 30th April  1913 greg. In Tallinn , Governorate of Estonia ; † the 30th April 1943 in Kalinin , Soviet Union ) was an Estonian footballer .

Career

Elmar Tepp was born in Tallinn, the capital of the Estonia Governorate , in 1913 . He started his football career at Tallinna SS Põhjala . From the mid-1930s he played for Club VVS Puhkekodu Tallinn as an active football player. From 1938 to 1940 his hometown club was JS Estonia Tallinn . In 1937/38 he was Estonian champion and 1939/40 runner-up.

In July 1937, Tepp made his debut in the Estonian national team as a defender against Romania . Tepp also took part with the national team in qualifying for the 3rd World Cup in 1938 . After a win over Lithuania and a draw against Latvia , Tepp won the Baltic Cup with Estonia in 1938 .

For Estonia Elmar Tepp came to a total of 18 missions in which he remained without a goal.

Elmar Tepp was drafted into the Red Army in 1941 during the Second World War . He fought there for the Soviet Union together with his teammates from the Estonian national team Heinrich Uukkivi and Richard Kuremaa in the battle of Velikije Luki . He was captured by the Germans as a result of the fighting and was later able to free himself from them. In April 1943, Tepp was sentenced to the death penalty by a Soviet court martial, which was commuted to a 15-year prison term. Elmar Tepp died a month after the verdict at the age of 30 (presumably from torture ) in prisoner-of-war camps 384 or 395 in Kalinin .
