Csaba László

Csaba László (born February 13, 1964 in Odorheiu Secuiesc , Romania ) is a Romanian- Hungarian football coach and former player.

Player career

Csaba László was born as a member of the Hungarian minority in Transylvania in 1964 and it was there that he began his footballing career as a youth at Progresul Odorhei and then at FC Unirea Cristur. He later played for FC Szekelyudvarhely between 1984 and 1986 before moving to Germany. There he played for the club SpVgg Oberaußem-Fortuna (FV Mittelrhein) and then moved to TuS Grevenbroich and CfB Ford Niehl in Cologne before joining the Bayer 05 Uerdingen pros (1989/90 season). After one season he moved to the Hungarian club FC Volan in 1990 and ended his playing career at BVSC Budapest in 1991.

Coaching career

As a trainer he started again in Germany at Blau-Weiß Kerpen and TuS Grevenbroich. He then looked after Borussia Mönchengladbach II and is considered the discoverer of the talents Marcell Jansen , Eugen Polanski and Tobias Levels .

In January 2004 he became assistant coach of the Hungarian national team under the German coach Lothar Matthäus , but in June 2004 he became coach of the Hungarian club Ferencváros Budapest . After losing the Champions League qualification to Sparta Prague , his team did well in the UEFA Cup, where they eliminated Millwall and Heart of Midlothian and scored a respectable 1: 1 against their nearest opponent Feyenoord Rotterdam , which he did in 2005 brought in the title of "Trainer of the Year" in Hungary. When Ferencváros got into financial problems, he left the club and went to FC Sopron . After a few months there, he left the club and became the national coach of Uganda . His work here was so successful that he was named "The Miracle Man" by the local press and from then on had cult status in Uganda.

From July 2008 to January 2010 he was the coach of the Scottish first division club Heart of Midlothian and broke his tent in Uganda. From September 2010 to March 2011 he was the coach of the Belgian club Sporting Charleroi .

In January 2012, Csaba László became the head coach of the Lithuanian national soccer team , but resigned in September 2013 after the disappointing performance in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup .
