Brendan Rodgers (born January 26, 1973 in Carnlough , Larne ) is a Northern Irish football coach .

Coaching career

After his playing career had ended prematurely due to injury at the age of 20, Rodgers worked in the following years as a youth coach for Reading FC . In 2004 he moved in the same role to Chelsea FC, coached by José Mourinho , and in July 2006 took over the coaching position of the club's reserve team.

Watford FC (2008 to 2009)

His first position as head coach was on November 24, 2008, the relegation-threatened English second division club Watford FC . Rodgers led the club in the Football League Championship 2008/09 to 13th place and managed to stay relegated.

Reading FC (2009)

After this first success in his career as head coach, he left Watford after the season and signed on June 5, 2009 a three-year contract with his former club Reading FC . In the preseason he had only missed a direct return to the Premier League in the play-offs and thus played again in the second division in the 2009/10 season . His activity in Reading ended on December 17, 2009.

Swansea City (2010 to 2012)

On July 16, 2010, he took over the coaching position at the Welsh club Swansea City . Swansea City had played in the English second division since 2008 and had just missed the play-offs in seventh place in 2009/10. With Rodgers they managed a further increase in the 2010/11 Championship , which led to third place at the end of the season. After a success in the first play-off round against Nottingham Forest (0-0 and 3-1) Swansea moved into the final. There, the team around three-time goalscorer Scott Sinclair defeated his previous club Reading FC 4-2, making it the first Welsh club to enter the Premier League . In February 2011 Rodgers was named coach of the month in the second division.

Liverpool FC (2012 to 2015)

For the 2012/13 season , Rodgers moved to the English club Liverpool , with whom he signed a three-year contract, the term of which he extended to 2018 after finishing second in the Premier League, two points behind champions Manchester City . On October 4, 2015, he was dismissed due to continued unsuccessfulness and replaced by Jürgen Klopp .

Celtic Glasgow (2016 to 2019)

In May 2016 Rodgers succeeded Ronny Deila as coach of the Scottish first division club Celtic Glasgow . He has been a Celtic fan since childhood and is the club's third Northern Irish coach after Martin O'Neill and Neil Lennon . In his first year as a coach he won the national triple of championship, cup and league cup with Celtic. His team remained undefeated in all three competitions. On November 4, 2017, Rodgers won 4-0 with Celtic against FC St. Johnstone , making the club 63 competitive games in Scotland without defeat. He and his team surpassed the British record of unbeaten games, set up by Willie Maley's team between 1915 and 1917. In November 2017, he and his team won the League Cup again. This made him the first Celtic coach after Jock Stein to win four national trophies in a row. In the same season he won the championship and the cup again with his team, with which the triple was successfully defended. Rodgers' contract ran until 2021.

Leicester City (since 2019)

On February 26, 2019, Rodgers left Celtic to take over as coach of Leicester City in the English Premier League . His contract runs until 2025.
