James Daniel Maddison (born November 23, 1996 in Coventry ) is an English football player .

Career

James Maddison was born in 1996 in the English industrial city of Coventry in the West Midlands . He began his career in the youth of Coventry City . On August 13, 2014, he made his professional debut for the club in the League Cup against Cardiff City when he came on for Josh McQuoid . He played twelve third division games for the club in the 2014/15 season and scored two goals. Maddison had the same number of league games and hits in the 2015/16 season through January 2016. On February 1, 2016, the English second division Norwich City signed him for a transfer fee of 6.5 million pounds, which immediately loaned him back to Coventry. There he was used in 11 other league games and scored one goal. In August 2016 he was awarded for six months to the Scottish first division club FC Aberdeen . On matchday 7 of the Scottish Premiership 2016/17 he scored against Glasgow Rangers in the 90th minute with a direct free kick to win the 2-1 victory. The loan from the Dons was extended to the end of the season in December 2016.

In November 2019, he made his debut as a substitute for the English national team . The European Championship qualifier against Montenegro was also England's 1000th international match.
