Club career

Nottingham Forest (2002-2012)

After Wes Morgan was sorted out at Notts County's youth academy at the age of 15 , he moved to rivals Nottingham Forest . There he was able to convince the club management of his abilities and in 2002 he signed a professional contract with Forest. From February to May 2003 was on loan to Kidderminster Harriers . In the fourth highest English division, he came on 5 missions in which he scored a goal against Cambridge United .

In August 2003, Morgan made his debut for Nottingham against Port Vale at the age of 19 . During the season he was used regularly and had the privilege to play alongside defender legend Des Walker . In the Football League Championship 2004/05 Morgan had to see the bitterest moment for Forest in a long time - the relegation to the third-rate Football League One .

The third year in the new league finally brought Wes Morgan and his team a return to the Football League Championship . Nottingham Forest managed to stay clean in 24 games, which was a new league record. After a hard-fought relegation in 2008/09 , Morgan advanced to become a regular in the 2009/10 season and completed 44 league games. On the 16th matchday he scored his first goal of the season at the home game at the City Ground in front of 21,467 spectators against Bristol City . He scored a total of three league goals. Nottingham Forest reached a very good third place in the table behind Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion at the end of the season and thus narrowly missed direct promotion to the Premier League . In the first play-off round, Morgan failed with his team in two games at the later promoted Blackpool FC .

Forest also reached the play-off semi-finals in the Football League Championship 2010/11 . As sixth in the table, Wes Morgan's team (46 games / 1 goal) met third Swansea City and after two games (0: 0/1: 3) again missed the play-off final. Morgan was named PFA Team of the Year of the second division due to his strong defensive performance at the end of the season .

Leicester City (2012-)

On January 30, 2012, Wes Morgan moved to league rivals Leicester City and signed a contract with a term of two and a half years. For the 2015/16 season Morgan was appointed team captain and became English champions with the club. In July 2016, Morgan extended his contract to 2019.
