The Football League Championship 2004/05 was the first season of the English Football League Championship and also the 13th season of the top division of the Football League - after the introduction of the Premier League - as only the second highest English league. It started on August 7, 2004 and ended on May 30, 2005.

The championship was won by AFC Sunderland , which also secured participation in the 2005/06 Premier League season . Behind runner-up Wigan Athletic , West Ham United also rose as a playoff winner in the Premier League. In the Football League One relegated had the Gillingham FC , Nottingham Forest and Rotherham United .
