Nathan Robert Ellington (born July 2, 1981 in Bradford , West Yorkshire ) is a retired English football player .

Career

Ellington began his professional career with the lower class Bristol Rovers . Wigan Athletic's attention was drawn to his scoring danger and paid a £ 1.2m transfer fee when he was signed in 2002. In the 2005/05 season he formed the club's storm duo with Jason Roberts , which together scored 45 goals. Ellington was the top scorer in the Football League Championship with 24 goals . This made him interesting for other clubs.

On August 16, 2005, West Bromwich Albion transferred £ 3,000,001 to Wigan Athletic for Ellington, as the two clubs could not agree and a clause in Ellington's contract said he could leave the club for a transfer fee of more than £ 3 million . Due to several minor injuries, however, Ellington could not really prevail at his new club.

In 2008, Ellington expressed his still unfulfilled wish to play for the Bosnian-Herzegovinian national football team and to apply for the relevant citizenship because he was married to a Bosnian woman.

On July 1, 2011, he moved to Ipswich Town and signed a two-year contract with the second division.
