Jason Andre Davis Roberts MBE (born January 25, 1978 in Park Royal , London ) is a retired Grenadian football player .

Career

society

Like his uncle Cyrille Regis , Roberts began his career at FC Hayes . He was loaned to Torquay United and Bristol City by Wolverhampton Wanderers .

After moving to the Bristol Rovers , he made his breakthrough. With 22 goals in the 1999/2000 season he attracted attention and was signed by West Bromwich Albion . There he was able to establish himself quickly and formed a successful storm duo with Lee Hughes , which shot the club in the relegation games, in which the team could not prevail. The following year Roberts suffered from a foot injury that allowed him only 12 appearances in the season in which he scored seven goals.

Although fully recovered, Roberts only scored three goals in 31 games in his first season in the Premier League . Therefore, he was loaned to Portsmouth FC the following season .

In 2004 Roberts was sold to then-second division side Wigan Athletic for £ 2 million . Behind teammate Nathan Ellington , he finished second on the scorers list. This also led to direct promotion to the Premier League. With a converted penalty against Sunderland FC Roberts scored on August 27, 2005, the first division in the club's history.

In the summer of 2006, Roberts signed a four-year deal with Blackburn Rovers , who paid Wigan £ 3 million for it . Roberts played for the Rovers for six years before moving to Reading FC . Here he ended his professional career in 2014.

National team

Roberts played for Grenada from 1999 to 2008 . In qualifying for the 2006 World Cup , he failed with his team in the second qualifying round at the USA .
