The Football League First Division 1995/96 was the fourth season of the Football League First Division as only the second highest English football league and 93rd second division season overall. It started on August 12, 1995 and ended on May 5, 1996.
Second division champions were the AFC Sunderland and also the second-placed Derby County rose directly to the Premier League . In addition, Leicester City prevailed in the play-off games against Stoke City and in the final against Crystal Palace and became the third promoted team. From the Premier League in the following second division season 1996/97, the three in the table below Manchester City , Queens Park Rangers and Bolton Wanderers took the free places. From the First Division in the third-rate Football League Second Division dismount had the Millwall FC , the FC Watford and Luton Town . Instead of the three clubs, the second division winner Swindon Town and the Oxford United and play-off winners Bradford City, who ranked behind them, took the vacant positions in the following season 1996/97 .
