The Football League Second Division 1950/51 was the 48th season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . It began on August 19, 1950 and ended on May 5, 1951.

Second division champion was Preston North End and in addition, second-placed Manchester City rose to the Football League First Division . For the two promoted teams in the following second division season 1951/52, the two first division clubs Sheffield Wednesday and Everton FC ranked in the table below . Chesterfield FC and Grimsby Town had to relegate from the Second Division , with both clubs henceforth having to compete in the North Season Football League Third Division North . Instead of the two clubs in the following season 1951/52 Third Division North champion Rotherham United and from the Third Division South the winner Nottingham Forest took the vacant positions.
